April Civic Buzz: Training for Ethical Police Practices
Public concern about law enforcement training and practices has grown, especially after Operation Metro Surge when ICE & other federal agents used excessive force, conducted dangerous vehicle pursuits, made aggressive stops and arrests, and engaged in crowd control tactics that felt both alarming and unlawful. These moments have prompted an important question: What does ethical law enforcement look like, and how is the Mpls Police Department preparing both new and veteran officers to meet the new standards of non‑discriminatory policing outlined in MPD’s Settlement Agreement with the MN Dept of Human Rights?

Commander Kris Brown, a 26‑year MPD veteran who now leads the department’s Training Division, will join us to explore these issues and discuss how MPD is working to build a more accountable and community‑centered approach to policing.

2023 Minneapolis Local Election Education - Check It Out!
The League of Women Voters Minneapolis is once again providing a series of six articles for voters, this year on the 2023 Minneapolis Election. In 2023 all 13 Wards will elect a City Council Representative, so our focus will be to educate the community on the importance of this local election and encourage community members to VOTE LOCAL. Each article will be distributed the first Monday of the month, beginning in April, for publication in the subsequent month’s online and print edition. The articles will cover topics such as the Role of the City Council, Rank Choice Voting, What is on Your Ballot? and more… Articles will also be available on the League website by going to the For Voters Page!
