The United States systematically keeps people impacted by the criminal legal system out of the democratic process by restricting the voting rights of millions of formerly disenfranchised people. In 2024, 4 million Americans could not vote due to felony convictions. Disenfranchisement also disproportionately affects communities of color—in 2022, 21 percent of Minnesota's disenfranchised population was Black (despite being only 7% of the state’s population).

In 2023, the state restored voting rights to about 47,000 Minnesotans who had completed their time in jail or prison. In Minnesota, if you're out, you can vote! Yet still, many of these eligible voters don’t participate due to confusion about their rights or fear of prosecution.

You're invited to join in community, learn about the election and your voting rights, and claim your power as a justice-impacted voter at the Count Us In Democracy Fair, co-hosted by community organizations including MNJRC, ACLU MN, MN Voice, League of Women Voters MN, and Minnesota Agape Movement.
